Composition Posters (work in progress)

I just finished foundations in the program. The last two weeks of the course we were focusing on composition and posters.

This is a music poster I did and I chose to do "The Decemberists." Folklore and historical events have a heavy presence in their songs. I was inspired by The Brothers Grimm story " The Frog King" but I wanted him to have the look of a king from the 1910s. I painted from scratch in Photoshop and used some texture for the face and the jacket. I completed this piece in two days. I may come back to this piece and work on it a little more. (I took out the concert date and info so I can just showcase the art.)

This was another poster I did during those two weeks. I had to finish this poster before heading off to Vegas for a wedding, so I finished this poster in a day. I chose to do Edward Scissorhands for my movie poster. I wanted to have fun and play with a new style, so I went for a really stylized look. If anyone has watched the movie they will understand the concept of this poster. This poster was completed in Illustrator. I may come back to this piece and work on it a little more.I also just found out that I won the Entrance Scholarship award for my previous work I did before entering this program. The award ceremony is next week :)

48 Hour Sketch

This Illustration was completed in two days in Illustrator. I used the pen tool for all the drawing. I think I am expert with that tool now. The assignment was based on the theme "Modes of Transportation."

Here is my retro kitchen scene in maya that I've been working on. At the moment I am only showing off the modeling even though I have textures and lighting in the scene. I will show more of those images later on when I have tweaked them more. There is a couple more objects I want to model as well.

Purrcasso Art Show 2010

It's that time of the year again when I do a painting for the Purrcasso Art show for the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society in California. This is my fourth year contributing to the show. The show will showcase lots of great artists from Canada and the United states. You can check out the artists and their work at the Purrcasso blog. There is going to be two prints for this piece however they will be slightly different from each other to keep them unique.

Painting for the 2011 HugABull Calendar

I"M ALIVE!! This week I finished a painting for the HugABull society. The painting will be in the 2011 calendar. My painting is inspired by a Pitbull named Brandi who was rescued by HugABull. For those people who don't know about HugABull, they rescue bully breeds from the shelter system, placing them in foster care and ultimately adopting them into responsible, loving homes. Film: Work in Progress

Lately, I have been working on the short film. Here is a image from the film. It may or may not look like this at the end but its an update. I'm hoping the next post about the film will be some animation.
On a side note, I think I really like blue characters, it seems I keep designing characters with the color blue.

USB Model

A goal for 2010, is for me to learn more CG. This is basically my first model I did. I modeled a USB cord with a help of a tutorial I found on the internet. Blake, of coarse helped out with the texture and the lighting.

Concept Art / Christmas Card

Lately, I have been really busy with freelance contracts, so I haven't had time to work on my personal projects such as my film, therefore everything has been on hold. Christmas is around the corner so things should slow down now. I'm hoping to get back working on the film and some other small project that I need to work on.

So this is a quick concept peice for the graphic novel my husband is writing. This peice is defently not my usually style but I had fun doing it and there will be more in the new year. Who knew I can paint creepy things!

Speaking of Christmas, Blake and I did our christmas card for the year. This year's card stars both of our dogs, however our cat isn't the best to dress up so we left her out of the picture. I think she's happy about that, anyway Merry Christmas!!!

The annual Purrcasso Art show

It's that time of the year again when I do a painting for the Purrcasso Art & Craft benefit for the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society in California. This year I did a painting from the "Cat and mouse" series. The show will showcase lots of great artists from Canada and the United states. You can check out the artists and their work at the Purrcasso blog The great thing about this painting, I got to use my new intuos 4 Wacom tablet. All that I can say is that I love it!! It makes digital painting way easier and fun. One of the photos has my cat in it. I thought it was cute that she was interested in the painting.

Here are some storyboards to the film I am working on. They are just random boards from the film, therefore they are not in any particular order. I just finished the my second animatic. I have still lots of tweaks and changes to the film before I start actual production but the film is coming along. I have lots of other projects I have to work on so I may have to put the film on hold for a couple of weeks. However I will have some more posts in the near future.

Simon's Cat Contest.

A couple of weeks ago, Blake and I entered a contest that was held by Simon Tofield who created the animated shorts "Simon's cat". Basically they wanted to see a photo of Simon's cat in different places. Sadly though we didn't win but that's o.k, we had lots of fun doing the photos. First lighting tests for the film

Blake and I are slowly working on a film together. The film will be stop-motion animation and inspired by old monster movies. Last week we worked on some lighting tests on a clay character that I just whipped up the night before. (This isn't the character in the movie just a stand in). We were basically playing around with a green screen and some lighting situations. I did a quick animation with this guy but we are playing around with that at the moment.

It's that time of the year when I donate a painting to the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society Purr-casso Art Show in California. It was the first time they allow canine art into the show, so this year I did a painting of one of my dogs. If you are around that area check it out.

A quick slug character

I did this guy a month ago for a fun animation session Trista and I did one day for fun!! We just used her camera and shot the animation like that. You can check it out at her blog. I was pretty happy with it considering it was very ruffed out. I will hopefully put my own version together in the near future with some music :)

Breath Of Life Animation Festival

Sorry for not posting in a long time, I have been really busy for the last couple of months. I've been doing some freelance work for some people. (which I hope to post in the near future) I also have been teaching myself 3D animation and will be taking a course next week for Softimage XSI and on top of that I"ve been planning a wedding. Anyway back on topic, last weekend I helped out at the first annual Breath of Life Animation Festival and Workshop hosted by Ken Priebe & friends.

I helped out with my fiancé at the "Animate your face Station" Basically, the kids stand behind glass then we do some stop-motion with clay on the other side of the glass. We got some real cool little movies. I really enjoyed myself and know Blake really likes stop-motion now so maybe in the near future we can do a collaboration. Stop-Motion Animation From Four Years Ago

These five animations are almost four years old. I did them before even knowing how to animate properly. Each one was sculpted and animated in one day except for the last one. The leperchun was made in a week and was animated in one day. I love Stop-motion and hope to do more in the near future:)

It was my friend's birthday this week and she loves fairies, so I decided to make her a painting of one. I don't paint a lot of humans so I am proud of this painting. This drawing is inspired by Pin-up girl art and Disney(but I don't think you'll see this kinda girl in a Disney movie lol).

So I saw the new trailer for the new Pixar movie Wall-E. Looks awesome and I"m already in love with the robot character. Maybe I'm so into this movie because it reminds me of Short Circuit but either way I can't wait until it comes out!!!

Purrcasso Art Show was a Success

I am happy to say that the 2007 Purrcasso Art show was a Success!! My Painting "Double Stuffed" sold and now enjoying someones home. The Art show raised over 11,000 for the Berkely-East Bay Humane society in California!!! Congrats!! I'm looking forward in doing something for them next year!!!

I'm very excited that I got to do this painting for The 2nd Annual Purr-casso Art Sale and Gala in California!! All proceeds from this event will benefit the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. I always try to help out the animals as much as I can and doing this painting was right up my alley! I mixed traditional art with some some digital!! It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again.

Well, I feel the need to do some more things in animation besides work. So these doodles are basically fast thumbnails in flash to determine my new victim I mean my new character. So my next post will be most likely a more complete design of one of these idea's so I can start animating something for my portfolio!!! I learned alot through atomic cartoons so I'm looking forward to use some of the tricks on my own personal animation :)

Mice (A quick doodle in honor of having mice in my house)

In the honor of having mice in my house :( and recently seeing Pixar's Ratatouee. I decided to do this quick doodle. It's still ruff so I may go back and clean it up and maybe add some color. However, I'm pretty happy with it because I don't have time to do a lot of spare drawing these days so it was fun for the Ten minutes I took doing this doodle.

I've been so busy with work that I'm behind on my posts. Well I completed a flash short in January called Animation Lesson 117 It's part of a project I'm working on in my spare time. I'm waiting on some festivals so I won't yet post the short. But hopefully in the near future I will have the web page killerbros.com up and running soon so people can see them! I'm also starting a new stop-motion/flash project so I'm sure in the near future there will be a lot more posts when work cools down a bit! Until then bye bye
