March madness

Nothing is really new in my life, just super busy with work like always.  I"m back doing some work for Hasbro's "Littlest Pet Shop" which is always fun.

I recently got this awesome book in the mail called "American illustration". They produce another book called American photography for those who are more interested in photography. The book is well designed and contains many beautiful illustrations from different artists. Hopefully, one year I can be showcased in this lovely book. I do recommend anyone who loves illustration to purchase "American Illustration"

I don't watch a lot of television but I will admit I'm really excited for the new season of Mad Men. I am also really excited to find out recently that Milton Glaser designed the new poster. I have admired his work for a very long time and of course he did a beautiful job making a great trippy 60s poster for them. He also gave a great inspiring interview with Jian Ghomeshi on "Q".

We Made Logo

Before Christmas, I designed a logo for a new local company called We Made. They will be an online resource and directory for locally made goods in British Columbia, Canada. The client was looking for something illustrated and fun with a handmade look.

As with most projects, I started by sketching out my ideas in my sketchbook. Then I brought my ideas to the computer to explore more variations and ideas. I ended up doing several versions with different illustrated tools, colors and textures. The client choose a slightly different variation of this logo but I thought I would show my favorite version.

I had a lot of fun working on this logo and playing around with type. I will definitely let you know when the website is up and running.

Uppercase Issue 20

Like I said before, I wanted to post more things like my process and inspiration on my blog.  I would like to share one of my favorite magazine, Uppercase. The new issue arrived last week and I am very excited that this issue's theme is broadcasting.

In this issue, I really enjoyed the interview with Jason Munn who also designed the cover. I also enjoyed the articles on L'Affichiste which is a Montreal gallery specializing in antique fine art and decorative art posters from “Art Nouveau”, Art Deco and Contemporary .  Another article I really enjoyed, due to my love of type and letterpress,  is "The History of Hamilton Wood Type."

If you love design and crafts, I highly recommend this beautiful magazine.

Interview with Your Cavern

Earlier this month, I did an interview for a digital art blog called "Your Cavern". The interview showed more of my older work but it was fun to do an interview for someone who loved my art. You can check out the interview here.

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014

Happy New Year!! Yes, I know it's two weeks into the new year, but I promised myself that I would stay away from the computer for several weeks during the holidays. 2013 was a good year, I worked on a lot of great projects, I bought my first home, and celebrated my five year wedding anniversary. I am looking forward to seeing what 2014 brings.

For the new year, I bought a limited edition letterpress calender, from the Vancouver Letterpress League. Each artist designed and printed one month. The calender is very beautiful.

I'm not huge on New Year's resolutions, but I think what I would like to do a little more art with my hands rather then using the computer all the time. In the last couple of years I have been into type and wanted to play around with lettering. I'm always looking at artists on Dribbble and Behance who do lettering and I am always amazed with the lines and beautiful flow in their work.  My husband bought me a calligraphy set with a great book for Christmas, so I will practice calligraphy in my spare time for fun.

One artist I have admired is Ryan Hamrick from Pittsburgh. Below he is lettering the word "Greetings".

Usually, in my blog I post things about my work, but in 2014 I would like to post more things like my process and inspiration. I'm hoping maybe twice a month as a start and we will see how that goes. I do have a lot of personal projects I want to work on in the next several months so we will see what happens.

Well 2014, let's see what you have to show me!
