Update on Life

A lot has happen in the last couple of months. First I finish school a couple of weeks ago. Secondly I won the Glenn Hyatt Memorial Scholarship for Excellence which means I finished top of my class with my fellow student friend Jody Sparkes. Third, my Gradshow at the Pendulum Gallery went really well (pictures coming soon) and I got a lot of great comments about my work. You can check out the grad show website. I also finished my personal website. Please check it out nicolestandard.com. I haven't really posted much of my work on this blog so here is some of the work I did in school.

The first project is the History of Video Game Consoles. This was a personal project I created along with my husband. The booklet shows a brief history of video game consoles from 1967 to the present. The main challenge was to organize the content in a clear logical manner with a fresh cohesive look. The booklet format is 8.5 X 5.5 inches with twenty-eight pages. The booklet covers seven generations with each generation represented by a colour. For the cover, all the letters were designed and influenced by past games. The booklet will compliment an app that is being developed. Photos were taken by Evan-Amos.

My take on the album cover for Modest Mouse’s “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank” was inspired by the lyrics and concept of the album as well as stop motion animation. I wanted to capture the feeling that this is the depiction of the first steps on an epic journey where the result can only be death. I used several textures and shadows to give that depth to the image.

Here are several websites I created throughout the course as well. These are just some of my work, please check out my website for even more work.

Finally, the big news, I got a job at Atomic Cartoons as an animator. I am working on a great new show called Rocket Monkeys. So far I am having lots of fun with these characters. It will be on Teletoon this fall in Canada. Please do check it out. As well as animating during the day, I'm doing illustrations and graphic design in the evening so look out for some more new work.

Who needs a break eh?
